Our Story
Michael Day Enterprises, INC was founded in 1981 by Michael Day, an individual who, at the time, had a 20-year history in the engineering thermoplastics industry. As the company grew, based on resale and distribution, it evolved into compounding to better support its marketing philosophy, offering quality and value coupled with outstanding customer service.
As MDE grew, it became one of the most respected and successful compounders in the Midwest. By 2008, sales had grown substantially, with an 80% concentration in the automotive sector, much of which was focused on GM and Chrysler. As the recession hit, the automotive industry suffered and GM and Chrysler filed Chapter XI bankruptcy, and MDE was sold to a global Italian company.

Today, MDE has re-established itself as Michael Day Enterprises, LLC and has resumed its marketing effort in engineering resins, primarily in Nylon materials of all types along with high temperature Nylon (HTN), polyacetals, PBT, PET, PC, TPV and Polyester Elastomer. MDE’s focus continues to be in offering quality and value combined with outstanding customer service, primarily directed at small- to medium-sized molders, many of whom are being neglected by the major global producers. Through partnering with key customers and potential customers in problem-solving and exploration of new opportunities for mutual profitability, it is MDE’s goal to be the compounder of choice as an alternative to the major polymer producers.

Michael Day
CEO, President
Michael Day started his career in the UK with positions in polymer resource and development, product development, and business development. He holds an HNC in Chemistry and GPI in Polymer chemistry/Plastics technology degrees. He has served in sales positions across Europe and parts of the Middle East. In the US, Michael has held key positions in product management and marketing before founding Michael Day Enterprises in 1981. Mike has been married for over forty years and has four children. He enjoys soccer, traveling, and a glass of red wine. He also serves as a deacon in his church.
Trevor Day
VP, General Manager
Trevor Day holds a marketing and sales degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He has 10+ years experience with MDE and his leadership has been instrumental in the re-formulation and establishment of the new generation of MDE, LLC. In addition to his sales and marketing skills, he has developed all around skills and experience in manufacturing and quality control. Trevor is a lifelong soccer player and still plays every week. He also enjoys golfing in the summer and shooting/fishing. He is also active in his church.
Derek McCune
Process Engineer, Manufacturing Manager
Derek McCune manages the manufacturing and process engineering area. He holds a degree in applied science and manufacturing processing from WVU. He has 14+ years experience in equipment layout, compounding, and process engineering. He has comprehensive experience in Auto-CAD and inventor 3D modeling. Derek is also proficient in screw design, single and twin screw manufacturing, and process optimization. Derek has a wife and two children. He enjoys camping, hiking and enjoying the outdoors, and is also very active in is local church.
Kathy Ballash
Purchasing Manager
Kathy Ballash is Manager of Purchasing and Customer Service. She has 30+ years experience in purchasing and her skills in development of relationships with both vendors and customers, together with her forthright and fair-minded approach to business relationships, has been a key factor in her successful career. Kathy has been married for 31 years with a son, a daughter-in-law, and three granddaughters that she enjoys spoiling. Kathy also enjoys gardening, shopping, and cooking.
